Art Biography:
Stephen was a teacher for 34 years, working in secondary and primary education. He has no art qualifications and is a self taught artist, which has allowed him to follow his own path and not be deterred away from painting what inspires him. He retired in 2009 and then started painting as a hobby. He joined an art society and his art journey began.

He is a versatile artist  using different media, and certainly likes  a challenge. He doesn’t have one particular style but loves colour which is prominent in most of his works, whether it is a large abstract work or a miniature  wildlife painting.

His abstracts are never planned, although he might want to focus on a particular palette. Through intuitive mark making and layering in paint his paintings emerge.

Examples of Abstract, impressionism, realism, expressionism. surrealism , minimalism and a few more “isms” can be found in his galleries. His work is varied to say the least!

In July 2022 an opportunity arose to open an art gallery , so he could display his work to the general public. It was also a place where he could create  and share his art techniques to those that were interested.  His studio/gallery can be found in a World Heritage Site  at C17 Maws Craft Centre, near Ironbridge, Shropshire.  TF8 7LS . An old victorian courtyard on the banks  of the River Severn.

Because of some health issues though, the gallery will probably close  at the end of summer 2026. He will definitely carry on painting and exhibiting in the Shropshire area.
